The Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine (UK) Limited is an academic body founded in 1994 by professional who practise Traditional Chinese Medicine in the UK. Dedicated to excellence in the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine, it focuses on the proper professional qualifications and the maintenance of the high standards of its practitioners.

Traditional Chinese Medicine involves the use of Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture, moxibustion, Qi Gong, and Tui-Na (medical massage) and is one of the world's most ancient medical systems. It is a distinct and independent system which originated in China and has become increasingly popular in the UK over the past few years.

Although Traditional Chinese Medicine has proved to be very effective in the treatment of many conditions, especially chronic diseases, and has been proven to be safe over centuries of use in China, it could still be harmful if administered by inadequately trained person. It is essential, therefore, that only properly qualified practitioners should prescribe Chinese herbal medication as it takes several years of specialised study to understand the theories, the principles of TCM, the uses of prescription herbs and their combinations.

Members of The Association are bound by the Association's Code of Ethics and Code of Practice and must hold a university, college or other equal recognised professional qualification. The different categories of qualifications are designated on appropriately worded certificates issued by the Association.

Copies of the Directory of members are available from many public libraries, local information offices etc., and are also obtainable from the ATCM office at a cost of 2 pounds including postage per copy.
